Il rock si proietta con entusiasmo negli anni ottanta. È sempre tempo di new wave, ma heavy metal e mainstream rock tengono duro. Inoltre c'� il vecchio blues, che ora conta su due "fratelli" di successo. Nel 1980, però, se ne vanno John Bonham dei Led Zeppelin, Bon Scott degli AC/DC e Ian Curtis dei Joy Division. A New York, poi, un colpo di pistola spezza per sempre il cuore del grande John Lennon.
